We were stopped by the side of the road. A friend came up beside me and wondered aloud why we had stopped here. In his opinion, we’d seen better views than this and it didn’t make sense for us taken a longer look. I chuckled at his opinion although I didn’t share it. We had been spoiled by jaw-dropping beauty for days. The scene spread before us was beautiful too, just a different kind of beauty for us to behold.
For you make me glad by your deeds, O Lord; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. How great are your works, O Lord, how profound your thoughts! Psalm 92:4, 5 (NIV)
You made me so happy, God I saw your work and I shouted for joy. How magnificent your work, God! How profound your thoughts! Psalm 92:4, 5 (MSG)
I do not understand the creative mind of my God. (That’s a good thing!) The expanse of the starry host. The vastness of the ocean. The ruggedness of mountains. The daintiness of flowers. The complexity of animals. The uniqueness of people. It is not a figment of His imagination. It is God’s creative genius on display. It is a creativity that defies logic. It is a power that is beyond description.
My mind was blown with beauty this past summer. Mountains and fjords. Waterfalls and flowers. More than once, the coach I was on would turn the corner and a new view would blow my mind. All I could do was sing the praises of the One who has made it all.
