Thanks …

Psalm 116_12a

I lived in their house. Ate the food out of their fridge. Regularly raided their cupboards. We sat together, laughing over dinnertime, watching the Tour de France and the World Cup. If I wasn’t in the lounge by a certain time, they came hunting for me. They adopted me into their family! There is no way I can ever express how grateful I am for their generosity!

I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the Lord. I will fulfill my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people. Psalm 116:12-14 (NIV)

What can I give back to God for the blessings poured out on me? I’ll lift high the cup – a toast to God! I’ll pray in the name of God; I’ll complete what I promised God I’d do it together with his people. Psalm 116:12-14 (MSG)

The very same holds true for my God. I live in His home. As I open my cupboard doors to decide what is for supper, everything that is there is from His hand. He is with me. Every journey big or small, He goes with me. His presence with me is never in doubt. He has chosen me, adopted me to be in His family! He is the One who has provided all for me. There is no way I can ever express how grateful I am for His gracious generosity extended to me.

It’s not just the physical things that I completely take for granted. His generosity and goodness to me go much further. Because of His love for me, I have salvation. Because of His desire to have a relationship with me, He sent His Son to pay the exorbitant price for my sin. Because of His presence, I do not need to live in fear and worry. His provision is greater than I can ever understand. Because of His faithfulness, I know He is with me for every step along the way. Because of His guidance, my feet continue to find the paths that He has for me. Because of His direction, I am led to green pastures with still waters where He refreshes my soul. Because of His goodness, I am blessed beyond measure.

My thanks will never be enough. My words of praise will barely scratch the surface. Living a life of gratitude, to the One who has made me, is a small token of my appreciation. I owe Him everything. May my thanks be a continual offering before His throne.
